We were commisioned by John Coward Architects in Cartmel, to design and develop a bespoke website for their business. The existing site was several years old, and had become slightly dated. It was also difficult to update the website, as well as the main problem that it did not function well on mobile and tablet devices.
After two initial meetings, Make Us Visible were commissioned to create the new website. During the course of the initial meetings, we were able to gain a solid understanding of the client base, and the type of work the team undertakes.
An important aspect of the site was the structure, and we would take visitors from their landing page, to the most relevant page as quickly as possible.
It was decided that we should categorise the projects into different types, which would each contain case studies. This would allow each visitor to see the most relevant case studies as quickly as possible.
It was also decided that the most important aspect of any case study was the images. With this in mind we ensured that the design featured strong placeholders for large high-resolution images.
As the old website could not easily be updated, it was felt crucial that this new site was extremely easy to manage. During the build of the site, training was given so that a team member could add text and images to the site. This ensured that the business had full control of the site’s content from day one, and was armed with the knowledge of how to keep the site updated.
Post design, significant work was done in coding the site to be fully responsive, to look great on mobiles and tablets. We think the end result looks great, and has resulted in a website which performs well across all devices, and is extremely easy to navigate.
We also put systems in place to make sure the company’s existing equity with Google was not lost, to maintain their rankings. We also setup Google Analytics so that traffic to the site could be monitored, and conversions measured.
As with all our clients, we will continue to assist with the development of the site in the future, as well as in offering our advice and support in digital marketing and generating future business via the website.
